Product Overview

Isopropyl alcohol — also called IPA, isopropanol or 2-propanol — is produced by continuous direct hydration of propylene and purified by multi-stage precision rectification, giving a stable purity of ≥99.5% with tightly controlled water and trace organic impurity levels. Each molecule carries both a hydrophilic hydroxyl group and a lipophilic alkyl chain, so it is infinitely miscible with water while also dissolving most resins, oils and organic actives — one of the broadest-fit general-purpose alcohol solvents on the market. It evaporates at a moderate rate and dries without water marks or ionic residue, and its low toxicity allows use in products that come into contact with people, such as medicines and cosmetics.

Demand continues to expand with the new-energy, semiconductor and biopharmaceutical sectors: wafer and PCB processes need ever higher-purity cleaning solvent, while disinfection, personal care and coatings remain steady traditional outlets. Compared with methanol it is less irritating and has a higher safety threshold; compared with ethanol it dissolves oils and greases more effectively, so substitution in existing formulations is straightforward. Storage only requires isolation from strong oxidisers and strong acids in a standard explosion-proof ventilated warehouse, and spent IPA is easily recovered by distillation, keeping long-term total cost of use under control.

Key Advantages

Amphiphilic Solvency, Works in Water- and Oil-Based Systems

Its unique hydrophilic-lipophilic structure means the same grade performs in aqueous and solvent-borne formulations. When blending cleaners or coatings you save the cost and complexity of an additional co-solvent, simplifying the formulation.

Residue-Free Cleaning for High-End Precision Processes

Even evaporation leaves no water marks or ionic contamination on chips, circuit boards and optical components, and does not attack precision substrates — meeting the ultra-clean standards of electronics manufacturing.

Low Toxicity, Safe for Human-Contact Products

Far less toxic than methanol and an effective bactericide, so it is compliant for disinfectants, skin care and cosmetic products and pharmaceutical extraction, with lower irritation on the workshop floor.

One Material, Many Production Lines

It acts as dilution solvent, cleaning medium, synthesis intermediate and disinfection raw material at the same time, feeding several production lines from one stock item and reducing the number of materials you need to hold.

Applications

Isopropyl alcohol is used across semiconductor and electronics cleaning, pharmaceutical disinfection, industrial coatings and inks, personal care, fine chemical intermediates and metal degreasing.

  • Semiconductor and electronics cleaning — removal of photoresist, flux, dust and oil from wafers, PCB boards, optical lenses and display substrates. A standard cleaning medium in electronics manufacturing.
  • Pharmaceutical and disinfection products — rinse-free medical hand sanitiser, instrument disinfectants and low-temperature extraction solvent for APIs; it denatures bacterial proteins for efficient antimicrobial action.
  • Industrial coatings and printing inks — a dilution carrier for wood lacquers and screen-printing inks on plastics, adjusting evaporation rate and pigment dispersion while preventing film blushing.
  • Personal care and cosmetics — the body solvent for toners, setting sprays, nail polish and perfumes; it dries quickly without a tacky feel and improves skin feel.
