Product Overview
Industrial-grade methylcyclohexane — also called cyclohexylmethane — is a monomethyl-substituted saturated alicyclic hydrocarbon. Industrial rectification holds purity at ≥99% with low benzene and low aromatic impurity content. It is a colourless transparent liquid with a faint aromatic note, insoluble in water and infinitely miscible with ethanol, ether, acetone, benzene, petroleum ether and most other organic solvents. It dissolves oils, greases, plastic resins and natural rubber strongly, evaporates at a moderate rate and has a better odour profile than ordinary alkane solvents.
The product is a highly flammable liquid. It carries skin irritation, central nervous system narcosis and fatal-if-inhaled hazards, together with long-term toxicity to aquatic life and bioaccumulation potential, so handling, warehousing and transport require anti-static protection and closed, ventilated conditions, and it must never be stored or shipped together with strong oxidisers.
Key Advantages
Low Aromatics, Low Odour, Workshop-Friendly
Rectification and de-aromatisation keep aromatic content extremely low and the odour faint, with noticeably less smell than xylene or pure cyclohexane. It suits enclosed production lines and indoor coating shops and meets Southeast Asian environmental control standards.
Balanced Dissolving Power for Many Resins and Oils
Strong on synthetic rubber, acrylic and alkyd resins, mineral oils, paraffin waxes and asphalt, with a moderate evaporation rate that leaves no water marks on cleaned parts. Coatings blended with it resist blushing and pinholes, lowering production reject rates.
Stable High Purity Suitable as a Chromatography Standard
Purity is held at ≥99% with low impurity levels and uniform batch specifications, so the same grade serves as a general industrial dilution solvent and as a gas chromatography reference material or thermometer calibration medium — covering both plant and laboratory use.
Direct Factory Supply with Full Southeast Asia Export Compliance Files
Own hazardous-goods warehouse stock supports drums, IBC totes, ISO tanks and FCL or LCL shipments. Complete MSDS, COA, dangerous goods packaging certificate and commodity inspection documents are available, with professional hazardous-cargo logistics following through and assisting importers with local customs clearance and registration.
Applications
Methylcyclohexane is used across four core industrial areas: coatings, inks and rubber solvents, industrial precision cleaning, pharmaceutical and chemical extraction and synthesis, and laboratory standardisation reagents.
- Coatings, inks and rubber solvents — thinner for wood lacquers, metal anti-corrosion coatings and flexographic or gravure inks; it dissolves natural rubber, synthetic resins, asphalt and paraffin wax, adjusting evaporation rate and optimising film levelling, printing and coating results.
- Industrial precision metal cleaning — degreasing of die-cast aluminium parts, stainless steel stampings and bearing components. It flashes off quickly after cleaning with no residue, replacing high-aromatic kerosene and benzene-based solvents in batch cleaning of precision parts.
- Pharmaceutical and chemical extraction and organic synthesis — an extraction and purification solvent for herbal medicines and pharmaceutical intermediates, and a reaction medium for producing various alicyclic derivatives where low impurity levels do not interfere with catalysis.
- Laboratory chromatography standardisation reagents — a gas chromatography reference substance and dedicated medium for thermometer calibration; a routine analytical solvent for research and third-party testing laboratories.

| Solubility | Insoluble in water; soluble in anhydrous ethanol, ether, acetone, benzene, petroleum ether and carbon tetrachloride |
| Storage | Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse away from ignition sources and heat. Keep the warehouse temperature below 37 °C and containers sealed. Store separately from oxidisers — never mix-store. Explosion-proof lighting and ventilation are required, spark-producing equipment and tools are prohibited, and spill response equipment and suitable containment material must be kept on site. |
