Product Overview

Mesitylene (1,3,5-trimethylbenzene) is refined from C9 heavy aromatics by freeze crystallisation and multi-stage vacuum fractionation, which isolates the target isomer and keeps xylene and other heavy aromatic impurities tightly controlled. It is supplied both as a general industrial grade and as a low-metal electronic high-purity grade. The symmetrical trimethyl structure gives a high boiling point and slow evaporation, so the solvent resists flash-off in high-temperature baking, while the evenly spaced methyl groups deliver high selectivity in oxidation — the core building block for trimesic acid and polyimide film.

Demand from new-energy electronics and high-end specialty resins continues to expand, while industrial high-temperature coatings and fine dyes provide steady baseline volume. Tightening low-VOC regulation is moving formulators away from short-lived benzene-type solvents towards high-boiling aromatics, and spent material can be recovered by distillation to keep the long-term cost of use under control. The product must be stored and shipped fully sealed, segregated from strong oxidisers, in an explosion-proof ventilated warehouse.

Key Advantages

Ultra-High Boiling Point, Slow Evaporation for High-Temperature Stoving

The slow, even evaporation rate stops the solvent flashing off in stoving ovens, so the film levels out fully with no pinholing or blistering — ideal for long bake cycles.

Symmetrical Structure, High Reaction Selectivity

The symmetric molecule oxidises cleanly to trimesic acid for polyimide film, heat-resistant films and electronic encapsulation resins — a core feedstock for high-end materials.

Broad Resin Solubility for High-Temperature Inks and Paint Removers

Outstanding solvency for epoxy, polyester and high-temperature resins, with proven performance in stoving screen-printing inks and heavy-duty industrial paint removers.

Lower Volatility, Less Workshop Irritation than Light Aromatics

Low vapour pressure keeps airborne concentrations in the workshop lower and reduces the load on abatement equipment, helping you meet VOC limits in your market.

Applications

Mesitylene serves six distinct industrial segments: high-temperature industrial stoving coatings, polyimide monomer synthesis, electronics lithography cleaning, dye intermediates, agrochemical additives and chromatographic reference standards.

  • High-temperature industrial stoving coatings — automotive coil coatings, heat-resistant stoving finishes for hardware and dilution carriers for powder coatings, giving a complete film with durable gloss.
  • High-end polymer synthesis — oxidation to trimesic acid for polyimide film and heat-resistant electronic encapsulation resins.
  • Semiconductor and electronics cleaning — PCB photoresist dilution and wafer residue stripping, with low impurity levels and no corrosion of precision components.
  • Organic dye intermediates — the chromophore backbone for high-end acid and disperse dyes, giving a marked improvement in colour fastness.
