Product Overview

Diethylene glycol monobutyl ether — known in the trade as the high-boiling anti-blushing solvent — is produced by catalytic addition of diethylene glycol and n-butanol and refined by multi-stage vacuum rectification, with free alcohol and light and heavy impurities strictly removed. Its diether-hydroxyl structure gives very strong two-way water and oil compatibility. With a boiling point as high as 231 °C and very low ambient vapour pressure, its evaporation cycle is longer than that of the low-boiling anti-blushing ethers, so it maintains film open time over a long period and completely prevents blushing, cracking and cratering even in low-temperature, high-humidity conditions. It dissolves acrylic, alkyd and epoxy resins stably.

Industry-wide, demand for low-VOC waterborne coatings and new-energy electronics manufacturing keeps expanding while environmental policy restricts short-acting glycol ethers, so replacement demand for high-boiling, long-lasting DEGBE is rising steadily; automotive electrocoat, PCB lithography cleaning and high-end screen inks show clear growth. The product is not a UN-regulated dangerous good, so road and sea transport need no dedicated hazardous-chemical qualification and logistics and documentation costs are lower. Spent solvent can be recovered by distillation at a high rate, keeping long-term total cost of use under control, and it can be stored in an ordinary ventilated, sealed warehouse, kept only away from strong oxidisers and strong alkalis.

Key Advantages

Ultra-High Boiling Point and Long-Lasting Anti-Blushing Performance

Evaporation is extremely slow, greatly extending the open time for film formation. Even in low-temperature, high-humidity workshops there is no blushing and the film does not crack during long application cycles.

Powerful Water/Oil Coupling That Stabilises Waterborne Systems

It reconciles water with oil-based resins and prevents separation and settling in storage. No additional co-solvent is needed, which simplifies the formulation.

Low Volatility and Low VOC, Aligned with Global Eco-Coating Standards

Shop-floor odour is faint and emissions are lower, meeting the testing requirements for exported waterborne coatings and eco-friendly inks.

Strong Penetration and Dissolving Power for Heavy-Duty Cleaning

Outstanding penetration strips cured old paint and deep-drawn stamping oils from metal, leaving no oil film or water marks after cleaning.

Applications

Diethylene glycol monobutyl ether serves six differentiated industrial sectors: waterborne industrial baking coatings, high-end printing inks, electronic lithography cleaning, heavy-duty industrial cleaning detergents, textile levelling auxiliaries and waterborne laminating adhesives.

  • Waterborne industrial baking coatings — a long-lasting film-forming aid for automotive electrocoat, waterborne wood coatings and anti-corrosion metal topcoats; films do not crack at low application temperatures and keep their gloss.
  • High-end screen and gravure inks — a slow-drying solvent for plastics and food packaging; it runs at high press speeds without screen blocking and prints fine, clean detail with no colour drag.
  • Electronic precision processes — a photoresist dilution and residue-stripping cleaner for PCB boards, free of ionic residue and suited to new-energy electronic component processing.
  • Heavy-duty industrial cleaning — a paint and grease remover for hardware moulds and coating fixtures that quickly dissolves cured resins and heavy lubricating oils.
