Product Overview

1,2-Dichloropropane is produced by purifying propylene oxide by-product streams together with multi-stage continuous distillation that removes light and heavy ends and acidic impurities. Purity holds at ≥99.5% with almost no batch-to-batch variation, so it does not interfere with cleaning processes or synthesis yields. The liquid is clear and bright with the characteristic light halogenated hydrocarbon odour and its dissolving power far exceeds ordinary hydrocarbon and ester solvents: it dissolves and strips mineral cutting oils, rust-preventive wax, epoxy and acrylic resins, rubber and plastic paint films, and its moderate evaporation rate suits closed-loop production lines with solvent recovery.

Demand from fine agrochemicals, resin synthesis and metalworking stays stable over the long term. Global agrochemical capacity expansion drives baseline demand for fumigation intermediates, while machinery manufacturing and plastic recycling need efficient degreasing and paint-stripping solvents in growing volumes. Even as environmental controls tighten in many regions, the product keeps an irreplaceable high-solvency cost-performance advantage when used in fully closed recovery systems. It is stable at ambient temperature when stored sealed; protection from light and moisture and avoidance of alkali metals are all that is needed for long-term storage, keeping warehouse management requirements moderate.

Key Advantages

Exceptional Degreasing Power for Heavy Oil Contamination

Outstanding stripping efficiency for heavy stamping oil, rust-preventive wax, cured resin and aged paint film, so metal parts need fewer washing passes and line processing time drops sharply.

One Material, Two Duties: Solvent and Synthesis Intermediate

It serves as a cleaning and diluting solvent and also takes part in chlorination and amination reactions to make agrochemical and fine chemical raw materials, covering several lines with a single input and cutting the cost of stocking multiple materials.

Balanced Evaporation Rate for High Closed-Loop Recovery

A moderate drying speed avoids both rapid blushing and long-term residue on the workpiece, and impurities separate easily by distillation so spent liquid can be reused many times, lowering long-term solvent purchasing spend.

Compatible with Many Resins for Broad Formulation Use

It dissolves epoxy, acrylic, chloroprene rubber and alkyd resins stably, so let-down and laminating adhesive systems do not separate or settle and formulation tolerance is high.

Applications

1,2-Dichloropropane is used across precision metal degreasing, coatings and inks, agrochemical fumigation feedstock and organic synthesis.

  • Precision metal degreasing — removal of cutting oil and rust-preventive grease from automotive hardware, agricultural machinery castings and stamped parts before phosphating, leaving an oil-free surface that improves plating and painting adhesion.
  • Coatings and inks — a dedicated diluent carrier for industrial anti-corrosion paints and plastic screen printing inks that improves pigment dispersion, tunes film drying and reduces orange peel and pinhole defects.
  • Agrochemical fumigation feedstock — the core component of DD mixtures for soil fumigation, controlling nematodes and soil-borne pests in field and fruit and vegetable base preparation.
  • Fine organic synthesis — used in the synthesis of propylenediamine, epoxy derivatives and herbicide intermediates, where chlorination substitution gives high conversion and few by-products that are easy to separate.
